Some of the storyboards we have for sale from this film have never been seen outside of production before. Some may also have different shots or angles that didn't make it into the final cut. The artwork on these storyboards is top-notch, they have a very comic book like style, better than what most movies have. It will come with a tamper and copy-proof certificate of authenticity (COA) that is encased in rigid plastic protector. The storyboard comes in a clear sleeve.

About the film:
The Matrix (1999), written and directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, is a landmark science fiction film that redefined action cinema and introduced a bold new vision of the future. Combining mind-bending philosophical questions with revolutionary special effects and sleek cyberpunk aesthetics, the film became a cultural phenomenon and a cornerstone of modern sci-fi filmmaking.
Actors and Performances
Keanu Reeves stars as Neo, a disaffected computer hacker who discovers that the world he lives in is a simulated reality created by intelligent machines. Reeves brings a quiet intensity to the role, transforming from a lost and skeptical everyman into a confident and iconic action hero. His performance?particularly in the film?s many fight scenes?helped solidify him as a defining figure of the genre.
Laurence Fishburne plays Morpheus, the enigmatic mentor who guides Neo through his awakening. Fishburne's gravitas and commanding presence give the film emotional weight and philosophical depth. Carrie-Anne Moss, in her breakout role as Trinity, delivers a powerful performance that balances strength, mystery, and heart. Her gravity-defying entrance in the opening scene became instantly iconic.
Hugo Weaving portrays Agent Smith, a sentient program bent on eliminating those who threaten the system. Weaving?s cold, calculating delivery and sardonic tone create one of the most memorable and menacing villains in science fiction history.
Direction and Production
The Wachowskis brought a bold and highly stylized vision to the screen. Influenced by anime, Hong Kong action cinema, comic books, and cyberpunk literature, they fused genres and narrative styles into a tight, fast-paced, and philosophically rich story. The themes of simulated reality, free will, and resistance to control were presented through a slick blend of action and introspection.
The film?s production design emphasizes contrast: the green-tinted, sterile world of the Matrix versus the gritty, industrial look of the real world. Production took place primarily in Sydney, Australia, where the team was able to build expansive sets and take advantage of cutting-edge production facilities.
Visual Effects and Innovation
The Matrix set a new standard for special effects, most notably with its invention of ?bullet time??a groundbreaking visual technique that uses a rig of still cameras to create the illusion of a slow-motion subject moving through a frozen environment. This became one of the most imitated effects in film history.
The action scenes, choreographed by legendary Hong Kong fight coordinator Yuen Woo-Ping, blended wire-fu martial arts with Western gunplay, creating a distinctive, ballet-like style of combat. The cast underwent extensive physical training for months to perform many of their own stunts.
The film also made extensive and innovative use of computer-generated imagery (CGI) for set extensions, digital doubles, and complex camera movements. Despite being more than two decades old, The Matrix?s effects still hold up, thanks to its thoughtful integration of practical and digital elements.
Legacy
Upon release, The Matrix was a critical and commercial success, earning four Academy Awards, including Best Visual Effects and Best Editing. It spawned multiple sequels, a spin-off anime anthology (The Animatrix), video games, and countless homages in popular culture.
Beyond its technical achievements, The Matrix resonated deeply with audiences due to its themes of reality, identity, and rebellion. It continues to be studied and celebrated not only for its storytelling and aesthetic, but for its lasting influence on both cinema and digital culture.
